From about December to April, dependent on the Wet Season, the lagoon fills up and is up to two metres deep.  This attracts the wildlife. 
The block has a range of microhabitats and is visited by a wide range of birds, animals, reptiles, and insects. Emerald Ground Pigeons and Pittas are seasonal visitors. Trees in the lagoon attract a great variety of nectar eating birds in the wet season. Two areas have matured northern Australian rain forest trees. Shrubs have been planted to support butterflies, both as caterpillars and adults, and insects such as native bees.

Another WOW factor to this great property is the 15 KVA generator with an automatic switch that turns the generator on if mains power is cut for any reason. Just imagine being able to still watch TV, cook, have aircon on or be in the pool, whilst there is a power outage for some reason. This is a common problem during storms.
 
The Virginia ‘corner shop’ and family Tavern is a couple of minutes away with the large shopping complex at Coolalinga, 5 minutes by car. Palmerston & Gateway major shopping complexes are 10 minutes’ drive and Darwin  City is 30 minutes by car. There is a preschool at Virginia and a number of primary and secondary schools in the Palmerston and rural area.
