Its location means that it has two types of landscape: the valley plain, eminently agricultural, and a more mountainous one. The main urban centre is located in the middle of both orographies enjoying a gentle slope. Its past dates back to the year 903 when for the first time the name of the municipality associated with the daughter of Count Guifr, to whom it belonged, appears. But it was not until 1843 that the first town hall was formed. The increase in population became especially notable between 1970 and 2004, when the inhabitants multiplied by 6, reaching more than 8, 000 today. Samples of the agricultural past of the region can be found in the farmhouses of Ca l'Arenys, Can Carlons, Can Divino, Can Draper, Can Fbregues del Bosque, Can Guineu, etc... We can also find architectural and religious heritage, such as the parish church of Sant Gens de l'Ametlla, built in 906. The modernist imprint, the result of the impulse that took place at the beginning of the twentieth century, is reflected in several buildings, including the town hall building (1912), Cal Barber, Dr. Balsa's caf (1906) and Can Millet (a farmhouse originally from the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries).
