About Vila da Luz de Tavira The first references to the existence of the parish date back to the sixteenth century (prior to 1514) and its importance comes from the intense agricultural activity. The parish of Luz de Tavira is located six kilometers from Tavira and is bordered to the south by the Ria Formosa and to the north by the parish of Santo Estvo. The population lives essentially from agriculture, bivalve harvesting in the Torre d'Aires area (where structures of the important Roman city of Balsa dating from the third to the first centuries BC were discovered), production of good quality citrus fruits and small trade. Iron and joinery works and artisanal fishing artifacts are produced. In gastronomic terms, in addition to cuttlefish feijoada, oysters and corn with clams, regional almond sweets should be highlighted, to be enjoyed in the various restaurants in the parish. Regarding accommodation, the parish has some infrastructures.
