The municipality is composed of the parishes of Bombarral, Carvalhal, P, Rolia and Vale Covo, and is located, in geographical terms, in the extreme south of the District of Leiria, 75 kilometers from Lisbon and 20 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, with the A8 motorway being its main communication route. A region populated since Prehistory, it is known that in the fourteenth century Bombarral was a farm of the Convent of Alcobaa appearing in the eighteenth century as Terras da Rainha.
