Located in the heart of the Portuguese West, the municipality of Bombarral is inserted in a fertile agricultural region, with a stunning landscape brushed in shades of water green, with large extensions of vineyards and orchards. The municipality is composed of the parishes of Bombarral, Carvalhal, P, Rolia and Vale Covo, and is located, in geographical terms, in the extreme south of the District of Leiria, 75 kilometers from Lisbon and 20 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, with the A8 motorway being its main communication route. A region populated since Prehistory, it is known that in the fourteenth century Bombarral was a farm of the Convent of Alcobaa appearing in the eighteenth century as Terras da Rainha. The Gruta Nova, the Lapa do Suo and the Neolithic fortification of Columbeira, located next to the Serra do Picoto, are some of the several archaeological sites. It belonged to the municipality of Cadaval until 1852, passing to that of bidos, until in 1914, it became the head of the municipality, consisting of the parishes of Carvalhal, Rolia and Bombarral. The inauguration of the Western railway line, on August 1, 1887, boosted the agro-industrial development of the village.
